Richard Elszy is devoted to shaping the future of dance by imparting his technical prowess and igniting the artistic passion of emerging talents through inventive and visually captivating choreography. As a teaching protege of dance education luminary Paula Morgan, Elszy amalgamates his extensive knowledge with a unique artistic vision to craft a comprehensive, technically innovative, and transformative training experience.

Richard’s dance journey commenced in a small single-room studio in Central California. Driven by an insatiable thirst for dance knowledge, he pursued higher education at the University of California, Irvine. There, he had the privilege of dancing under the mentorship of legendary choreographer Donald McKayle as a valued member of “Donald McKayle’s Etude Ensemble.” Additionally, he honed his ballet skills under the tutelage of acclaimed ballet professor David Allen. Elszy’s quest for excellence led him to train with one of America’s ten Ballet Masters, Larry Long, where he danced with the “Civic Ballet of Chicago.” He also expanded his horizons in Philadelphia, training with “Philadanco.”

Richard’s commitment to mastering dance technique led him to the revered Paula Morgan. Over the course of 11 years, he not only immersed himself as a student in the “Paula Morgan Method” but also assumed the role of a teacher. Elszy is among the select few certified to teach her Syllabus. Furthermore, he served as Paula’s teaching assistant during her workshops across the United States, Europe, and Canada, and his presence is featured prominently in all three of her technical DVDs.

With a distinguished career as a choreographer and dance educator, Richard has left an indelible mark on collegiate dance programs, companies, and dance studios across the United States and Canada, including prestigious institutions such as UCLA and USA (United Spirit Assoc.). Currently serving as the Director of Technique at the National Award-Winning Adage Dance Center, Richard has notched numerous accolades, including FDC titles and choreography for national title-winning soloists. His work, including the 2011 Rainbow Elite Video of the Year for “Step Sisters” and the 2012 KARTV Dance Awards nomination for Best Novelty/Character Musical Theater for “500 Miles,” has received critical acclaim.

Most notably, Richard clinched the 2014 Industry Dance Star Award in the Best Ballet/Open Category for his mesmerizing piece, “Tornado.” His former students have embarked on remarkable careers, gracing the stage with professional modern and contemporary companies, participating in collegiate dance programs, and even choreographing for renowned artists such as Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus.

Richard combines his profound understanding of technique with an innovative choreographic flair to curate a distinctive class and coaching experience that defines one-of-a-kind training for the next generation of dancers. His unwavering commitment to dance education and artistic excellence continues to shape the future of dance, leaving an indelible mark on the industry.
